A Backyard Furnace Head Holds a Class of the Local “Smelting Iron University,” Henan 1958
Given that Henan was one of the provinces hardest hit by the Famine that resulted from the Great Leap Forward. It is very likely that at least a few of the people in this photo died from food shortages in the following one to three years.
