This embrace occurred during a meeting for the signing of China-Japan Peace and Friendship Treaty on October 31, 1978. This photo is also another indication that there was a certain period of time when some Chinese leaders would hug their foreign partners. I am sure when this started and ended. But it was at least the case from the 1960s through 80s.
